Congratulations! If you’ve completed your Wisconsin real estate pre-license course and passed the state licensing exam, you’re ready for the final step—applying for your Wisconsin real estate salesperson license.
The application process is completed online through the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS).
Step 1 – Create Your DSPS Account
If you haven’t already, create your online DSPS account. You can do this before or after taking the state exam, so much of the setup is already complete when you’re ready to apply.
Step 2 – Complete Your Online Application
Once you’ve passed the licensing exam, log into your DSPS account and complete the online salesperson license application.
Apply for your Wisconsin real estate license through DSPS.
Step 3 – Submit Your Required Information
Your application will include your course completion and your licensing exam results. If everything has been completed successfully, DSPS can process your application.
Step 4 – Choose When to Become Associated With a Real Estate Firm
Once your Wisconsin real estate salesperson license has been issued, you may choose to become associated with a Wisconsin real estate firm when you’re ready to begin practicing real estate.
Many of my students already know which firm they’ll be joining before they take the exam. Others take more time to decide. Some obtain their license first and wait until they’re ready to begin their real estate career before becoming associated with a firm.
Take Note: Yes, you can get your Wisconsin real estate license without being associated with a firm. However, you cannot practice real estate until you’re associated with a Wisconsin real estate firm.
When you’re ready to start working with buyers and sellers, your broker will complete the association process and help you get started.
How Long Does It Take?
Once DSPS receives a complete application, processing is usually fairly quick, although turnaround times can vary.
If you’re ready to begin working, I recommend completing your application soon after passing the exam so there are no unnecessary delays.
