Congratulations! Completing your Wisconsin Continuing Education (CE) courses is a big step toward renewing your real estate license. Before the renewal period arrives, there are a few simple things you can do now to make the process quick and stress-free.

Keep a record of your completed courses

I recommend keeping a simple list of each course you complete, including:

• Course title
• School name
• Date completed

When you renew your Wisconsin real estate license online, the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) will ask you to enter information about the continuing education courses you’ve completed. Having this information readily available makes the renewal process much easier.

Save your course certificates

Keep a copy of each certificate for your records. While we maintain copies of your certificates and can provide them if needed, having your own copies available can save time during the renewal process.

Make sure your email address is current with the DSPS

The DSPS sends important license renewal information to the email address they have on file. If you’ve changed brokerage firms or email addresses, be sure your contact information is current so you don’t miss those renewal notices. You can update your contact information by clicking the link below and logging in. If you don’t have your username or password, select “Forgot/Change Password” or you can contact the DSPS at DSPS@wi.gov or 608-266-2112.

If you’re a REALTOR®, there’s one more step

If you’re a REALTOR®, you’ll also need to send your Code of Ethics and Fair Housing course completion certificates to the appropriate person at your local REALTOR® association.

Some brokerage firms collect these certificates from their agents and submit them to the local association on the agents’ behalf. Check with your broker to see how your office handles this process.

Now all you have to do is wait!

Once you’ve completed your courses, there’s nothing else you need to do until the DSPS opens the online license renewal period later in the renewal year. At that time, they’ll email renewal instructions to the address they have on file and explain how to complete your license renewal online.

Until then, simply keep your course records and certificates handy. When the renewal period opens, you’ll have everything you need to renew your license quickly and confidently.
